Publications & Standards Database
FREE Working Models Available

We offer you free working models to evaluate this database and its search software. Working models of Publications & Standards Database contain the same software that is used in the full product; however, their databases have been limited to about 1,000 document summaries (records). With the working model you will learn the functions of the search software, the type of data included, and how the product works in different media.

Several options are available for evaluating the database. From this website, you can directly access a working model of the Web version of the Publications & Standards Database, or download a working model of the CD-ROM version to your PC.

Download Instructions

We are happy to provide you with a working model of the SAE Publications & Standards Database. To acquire your CD-ROM working model, you will first download a self-extracting, compressed file to a specified directory on your hard disk. Second, you will run that file to decompress its contents. Finally, you will install the actual working model program. The steps are outlined below.

Step 1
Create a new directory on your desktop computer called MOVEDEMO. (For example, you may put this directory on your hard drive, so it would be named C:/MOVEDEMO.)

In Windows 95, you can create a new directory in the “Windows Explorer” section of “Programs.” Simply select “New Folder,” and assigning it to the drive of your choice.
In Windows 3.1, you can create a new directory in “File Manager” by selecting “Create Directory,” and assigning it to the drive of your choice.

Step 2
Return to the SAE website, and “click on” or select the download option on the FREE Working Model page. Your browser will prompt you to enter the directory name (e.g., C:/MOVEDEMO) and to enter the filename. We recommend using the default filename.

The default filename for the Publications & Standards Working Model is MOVEDEMO.EXE

Step 3
After the working model has been downloaded, it must be run in order to decompress the files.

In Windows 95, select “Run” from the Start menu, and enter the filename that you assigned in Step 2.
In Windows 3.1, select “File-Run” from the Program Manager, and enter the filename that you assigned in Step 2.
In DOS, change to the directory into which you downloaded the demo. Enter the filename that you assigned in Step 2, and then press the ENTER key.

Step 4
To install the Working Model, do one of the following:

In Windows 95, choose “Run” in the Start menu, and type the drive letter and path name of the setup file. For example, if you were working from your hard drive, you would type “C:\MOVEDEMO\SETUP.EXE.”
In Windows 3.1, choose “File-Run” in Program Manager, and type the drive letter and path name of the setup file. For example, if you were working from your hard drive, you would enter “C:\MOVEDEMO\SETUP.EXE.”
In DOS, change to the MOVEDEMO directory, and enter INSTALL.EXE.
Follow the instructions on the screen. When prompted, enter the working model installation code "MOVEDEMO".
