SAE Returns Policies

SAE.org offer refunds, credits or exchange for most items within 30 days of receipt of shipment. Below are our return policies:

Items ineligible for Return:

  • Electronic download documents or products
  • Faxed documents (special request)
  • Magazines
  • Online courses
  • Photocopies
  • Quantity purchases of print products or engineering aids
  • Special requests requiring photocopying
  • Special requests requiring engineering aids
  • Web products
Requirements for a Refund, Credit or Exchange [Individuals and Regular Business Accounts]:
  • Returned products must be in saleable condition to be eligible for credit
  • Complete and enclose the returns form included in the original shipment
  • Return the product within 30 days of receipt of shipment
  • A 20% re-stocking fee will be applied to the return
  • CD ROM, software and video products must be unopened and in their original shrink wrapped package
  • Shipping fees are non-refundable unless the return is due to an SAE International error
Requirements for a Credit [University Bookstores]:
  • University Bookstores may return up to 20% of their original order or unused print products within 60 days of invoice date.
  • Returned products must be in saleable condition to be eligible for credit
  • A 20% re-stocking fee will be applied to the return
  • SAE will notify you within 30 days of return receipt if the condition of the product(s) is not saleable
    • If you wish damaged items to be returned to you, additional shipping fees will be charged to you.
  • Shipping fees are non-refundable unless the return is due to an SAE International error
Book dealers, distributors or resellers
  • All sales are final unless the product is damaged

Placing an Order

SAE orders can be placed:
  • Online via sae.org
    • Click the "Add" button on the item's product page
    • Click on the 'Proceed to Shopping Cart' button in the window that appears as you add each item. OR click on the shopping cart link at the top of any page
      • To change the quantity, enter a number in the QTY column on the Shopping Cart page
      • To remove an item from your Shopping Cart, click Delete
    • Click on the 'Checkout of Shopping Cart' button
    • If you are not already logged in to sae.org, login to your account or create a MYSAE account for checkout
    • Confirm your billing and (shipping if applicable) address or add a new address for billing and/or shipment
    • Enter your payment information
    • Enter your purchase order (optional)
    • Enter the promotional code (optional)
    • Click on the 'Submit to Complete Order' button

Prices are subject to change without notice. All items will be shipped or downloaded at current prices.

Tax

United States:
  • California residents are subject to 7.25% state sales tax plus applicable county and district tax rates
  • District of Columbia residents are subject to 6% sales tax
  • Florida residents are subject to 6% sales tax
  • Georgia residents are subject to 4% sales tax plus applicable county rates
  • Illinois residents are subject to 6.25% sales tax
  • Michigan residents are subject to 6% sales tax
  • New York residents are subject to 4% sales tax plus applicable county and city tax rates
  • North Carolina residents are subject to 4.75% state sales tax plus applicable county and local tax rates
  • Ohio residents are subject to 5.75% state sales tax plus applicable county and local tax rates
  • Pennsylvania residents are subject to 7% sales tax
  • Virginia residents are subject to 5% state sales tax plus 1% local tax for all counties
Canada
  • Canadian residents are subject to 7% GST
NOTES:
  • A tax exemption certificate is required for tax-exempt status
  • Taxes are not charged for downloaded documents with the exception of Washington DC and Canada

Delivery and Shipping Options

Delivery

Most products offer either a Mail or PDF download option. Please see the product page of the item you wish to purchase to determine delivery options for the item. View the download instruction page.

Shipping

  • Shipping charges are based on the weight of the shipment, the shipping address, and the time-frame requested for delivery (standard, overnight, etc.).
  • For online orders, you may select your preferred method of shipping on the Payment and Shipping screen of the Checkout process.
  • Orders for in-stock items received by 3 p.m. Eastern Time are processed on the same business day.
  • Requests for materials that are out-of-stock or in the process of being printed will be processed as soon as the items become available.
U.S. Shipping Methods
  • U.S. residential deliveries are generally fulfilled via United Parcel Service (UPS) or the postal system. Average delivery time is 1 - 7 business days.
  • U.S. commercial deliveries are generally fulfilled via UPS. Average delivery time is 1 - 7 business days.
Non U.S. Shipping Methods
  • International Standard delivery method uses the destination country's postal service. Average delivery time is 2 - 6 weeks and is not traceable.
  • International Priority uses an express courier service and is delivered within 3 - 10 business days. This service is traceable.

    • Please note bank wires will only be accepted in amounts exceeding $500.00. If payment is for an amount less than $500.00 please choose an alternate payment method or contact Customer Service at 724-776-4970.
  • Quantity Discounts
    • Quantity discounts are available for many of our publications. Send an email to customerservice@sae.org or call a customer service representative at 1-877-606-7323 (U.S. and Canada only) or 724-776-4970 (outside the U.S. and Canada) for more information.
  • Standing Orders
    • SAE publishes a number of products on a regular basis, enabling you to establish standing orders. By establishing a standing order, you will receive products as soon as they are published. Just send us a purchase order stating the products you would like on a standing order basis.   • Deposit Accounts
    • Deposit accounts can be opened by contacting SAE Customer Service at 724-776-4970
    • Deposit an initial deposit of $750 of more to receive an account number
    • Draw against the deposit with each purchase
    • Receive a 10% discount off of the list price of many publications
    • Shipping charges are waived for domestic orders
    • Deposit accounts must maintain a minimum monthly balance of $500
