Return Policy
To ensure our customers receive prompt and proper credits for products returned to SAE in saleable condition, the returns form included in the shipment must be completed and accompany the return.

  1. Print products must be returned within 30 days of invoice date.

  2. CD-ROM, software, or video products must be returned within 30 days of invoice date. Product must be in original shrink-wrapped package (unopened). SAE does not accept returns of any CD-ROM, software, or video products that have been opened.

  3. SAE does not accept returns on downloadable documents, faxed documents, or web products.

  4. SAE does not accept returns of magazines, photocopies or quantity purchases of print products.

  5. SAE does not accept returns of referee materials or engineering aids.

  6. University Bookstores may return unused print products within six months of invoice date. Returned products must be received back in saleable condition to receive credit. SAE will notify you within 30 days of the return if the condition of the products are not saleable. If you wish to have the damaged products returned to you, an additional shipping charge will be incurred or you may provide a UPS account number.

  7. Shipping fees will only be refunded if the return is due to an SAE error.

  8. No returns are accepted from bookdealers, distributors, or resellers. All sales are final unless the product is damaged.

  • Order online
    Click on the "Add to my order" button next to the product(s) you want. The button looks like this:

    You can view the contents of your order anytime by clicking the Shopping Cart link at the top of any page.

    While viewing your order, you can remove items you don't want, change quantities of any items you've selected, or erase all the contents of your order. When you're ready to check out, click the "Check Out" button on the "My Shopping Cart" screen. You will be prompted to log in if you are not logged in, and then you will be prompted for shipping and payment information so that we may process your order.

Pricing and Tax
Prices are subject to change without notice. All orders will be shipped at current prices.

Pennsylvania residents are subject to 7% sales tax, Michigan, District of Columbia and Florida residents are subject to 6% sales tax, California residents are subject to 7.25% state sales tax plus applicable county and district tax rates, Georgia residents are subject to 4% state sales tax plus applicable county rates and New York residents are subject to 4% state sales tax plus applicable county and city tax rates. As of 4/1/12, North Carolina sales will be subject to 4.75% state sales tax plus applicable county and local tax rates. Canadian residents are subject to 7% goods and sales tax.

A tax exemption certificate is required for tax-exempt status.

Taxes are not charged for downloaded documents, with the exception of Washington DC and Canada.

Shipping Charges
Shipping charges are based on the weight of the shipment, the shipping address, and the time-frame of delivery (standard, overnight, etc.). The following shipping options are available:

  • Standard, overnight, and second day (for orders shipped within the U.S. and Canada).
  • International, and international priority (for orders shipped outside the U.S. and Canada).

You will be prompted to select a shipping option when you place your order online.

Payment Options
We accept the following credit cards: VISA, MasterCard, American Express, and Discover. If you want to download a document, you’ll need to prepay by credit card or deposit account.

We'll be glad to send you a proforma invoice if you need one.

Delivery and Shipping Options

  • Download your documents
    You can download ground vehicle standards, papers, and most AMS documents and Aerospace Standards. Click here for more details on this option! Returns are not permitted with this option.

  • Shipping
    Orders received by 3:00 p.m. Eastern Time are processed on the same business day. In-stock items are instantly packed and sent. Requests for materials that are in the process of being printed or for items that are not in stock will be processed as soon as possible. Large-volume orders may require extra time to complete.

    We generally use United Parcel Service (UPS) and the postal system to ship to residential addresses and UPS and RPS to ship to commercial addresses.

    Orders shipped in the continental U.S. generally take 1-7 working days depending on your location. We ship from Pennsylvania; if you're on the west coast, it might take 5-7 days to get your order. Customers on the east coast tend to get their orders in 1-5 days.

    We ship via Air Printed Matter to overseas locations. Packages shipped via this method generally take 2-6 weeks to reach their destination. If you're located far from a major city, your shipping may take a little longer.

  • Shipping from Supplier
    Shipping on some Gift products is done by an SAE business partner; these products will have the Stock Status "Shipped from Vendor." In these cases, orders received by 5pm will be shipped by our business partner within 24 hours. In the event of a back order of these products, our partner will try to have your order shipped out within 3 business days, but please allow up to 10-15 business days due to possible backorders with manufacturers.

    For users outside the continental United States ordering these Gift products, be advised that those orders typically take 2-3 additional days for customs preparation and an additional 2 -3 weeks for transit time. (All customs, taxes, and brokerage fees are the responsibility of the consignee. You may be contacted by a UPS or customs brokerage agent to authorize payment of these fees and to enable your package to be released from customs. Packages not claimed in a timely fashion are subject to being returned to shipper at consignee's expense. To avoid this, please respond to all customs agents in a timely manner.)

  • Fax Delivery

  • Claims for non-receipt of orders need to be received in writing within three months of invoice date.

Standing Orders
SAE publishes a number of books and technical papers on a regular basis, enabling you to establish standing orders. By establishing a standing order, you will receive products as soon as they are published. Just send us a purchase order stating the books you would like on a standing order basis. Deposit Accounts
Start an SAE deposit account and save time and money! SAE deposit account subscribers initially deposit a minimum of $750 to their account, and are then assigned an account number. With each purchase, you simply “draw against” the deposit. Deposit account holders receive a 10% discount off the list price of many of our publications and will not be charged shipping costs for domestic orders.
